What is PELSS?

The Power Electronics Student Summit (PELSS) is a conference focused on the field of power electronics. The conference provides students with their first opportunity to gain experience in preparing, presenting, and discussing their own research papers before a specialist audience.

This year, the conference is organized by the Institute of Electrical Engineering (ETI) and will take place at KIT from 22 to 23 September 2026. Participation is open to all doctoral candidates and enrolled students from all universities. Accepted papers will be published in the IEEE Xplore research database. The conference language is English. You can find the registration form at the bottom of this page.

Motivation

PELSS provides a scientific platform to promote academic exchange and networking among early-career researchers. In particular, young researchers pursuing master’s and Ph.D. degrees are invited to submit their current research work.
All submitted papers undergo a peer-review process and are evaluated for their scientific quality and relevance. Young researchers receive detailed feedback.  In addition, we offer a free online workshop on “How to Write a Good Paper” in early July.

All highlights at a glance:

  • publication of accepted papers in the IEEE Xplore research databas
  • presensation of your own results to a professional audience
  • networking with researchers and experts from academia and industry
  • free online workshop on "How to Write a Paper"
  • free room and board
  • varied social program

Conference Topics

The following topics are open for submission to PELSS 2026:

  • Power electronics for grids, smart grids and island grids
  • Control strategies for a sustainable, resilient and reliable grid
  • Renewable energy systems: wind, photovoltaic and other solutions
  • Power electronics for storage systems and hydrogen applications
  • Power electronics for e-mobility
  • Components, converter modelling and topologies, design and low-level control
